The Vagus nerve is responsible for multiple functions in all the organs of the body. Of the 12 cranial nerves, the vagus nerve (10th) is the only nerve system to leave the brain and connect to every vital organ in the body. When in physical or psychological stress, this nerve tightens and can inflame and get damaged. This mechanism is connected to fight-flight mode and one we ought to avoid for long term prosperity! The sessions will engage the correct biomechanics of the body to allow this nerve to relax and perform a fuller function. This can have beneficial impacts on the endocrine system and entire nervous system, as well as aid sleep and sooth the parasympathetic nervous system. The technique you will learn is a Vagus nerve reset, in yoga the exercise is sometimes called salamander. This is an effective stretch of the eye and ocular nerves, face muscles and neck muscles. The exercise resets and relaxes the vagus nerve – the only of the 12 cranial nerves to leave the brain and connect to all organs), bringing the brain out of fight-flight mode and into a more socially conducive, relaxed state. It’s a powerful tool of calming the nervous system and controlling the brain chemistry, and can cause a natural release of serotonin and dopamine to the brain, and feelings of bliss, having released the nerves around the occipital junction.
